Khajjiar
Mini Switzerland of India
Khajjiar is a saucer-shaped alpine meadow ringed by dense deodar forests and crowned by a small lake — famously dubbed the Mini Switzerland of India. With the 12th-century Khajji Nag temple, Kalatop sanctuary trails, and wide Dhauladhar panoramas, it is Chamba district's most photographed destination and a perfect day trip from Dalhousie.
Dalhousie
Colonial Pine Hills & Quiet Mall Walks
Spread across five hills at the edge of the Dhauladhar range, Dalhousie retains the quiet charm of a British-era sanatorium with Victorian churches, pine-lined Mall roads, and sweeping valley views. It serves as the main base for Khajjiar, Chamba town, and Kalatop adventures while staying cooler and less crowded than Shimla or Manali.
Chamba Town
Ancient Capital, Chaugan & Laxmi Narayan Temples
Chamba is one of the oldest continuously inhabited towns in Himachal Pradesh, ruled for centuries by the Chamba Rajas along the Ravi River. Its wide Chaugan ground, cluster of 10th-century Laxmi Narayan stone temples, Bhuri Singh Museum, and living traditions of Chamba Rumal embroidery and Minjar festival make it the cultural heart of the district.
Bharmour & Manimahesh
Chaurasi Temples & Sacred Manimahesh Lake
Bharmour was the ancient capital of Chamba before the seat moved downstream. Today it is the base for the sacred Manimahesh Lake trek — a high-altitude pilgrimage to Lord Shiva's abode at 4,080 m — and home to the Chaurasi (84) temple complex. Surrounded by Gaddi tribal villages and alpine pastures, Bharmour offers raw Himalayan spirituality and trekking.
Pangi Valley & Sach Pass
Remote Trans-Himalaya via Sach Pass
Pangi is one of Himachal Pradesh's most remote and least visited valleys, accessed via the dramatic Sach Pass at 4,414 m. Villages like Killar and Sural Bhatori cling to sheer Chenab gorge cliffs, offering rugged road-trip adventure, tribal culture, and landscapes that feel closer to Ladakh than mainstream Himachal.
